Lingual Braces

For those of you considering Lingual Braces, you’re in luck! Dr. Davis is one of the few orthodontists in the Phoenix area that has the education and training to offer this orthodontic treatment. About Lingual Braces

Often referred to as “invisible braces”, Lingual Braces actually sit on the inside surface of your teeth. The word “lingual” actually refers to the tongue or palate. And even though they are on the inside, they are still effective and get the job done. So why do people choose Lingual Braces? In most cases, it’s because they would rather not share with the world that they are wearing braces. They might be in a position where they present to groups or clients on a regular basis and want to maintain a professional image. Let’s set up a consultation and discuss why Lingual Braces might be a good choice for you. We can go over the pro’s and con’s and then let you decide. Give us a call today at 480-969-8500 to schedule your free orthodontic consultation!

Fun Fact

Braces go all the way back to the days of the mummies; some of them have been found with crude metal bands wrapped around their teeth.

Invisalign

One of the more popular treatments Dr. Davis offers is Invisalign. This treatment straightens your teeth without wires and brackets, using a series of clear, customized, removable appliances called aligners. It’s virtually undetectable, which means hardly anyone will know you’re straightening your teeth. Call today to set up a free orthodontic consultation to discuss the advantages of Invisalign.

About Invisalign

The Invisalign System combines advanced 3-D computer graphics technology with 100-year-old science of orthodontics. Invisalign aligners are designed to move your teeth in small steps to the desired final position prescribed by your orthodontist. Each aligner is precisely calibrated and manufactured to fit your mouth at each stage of the treatment plan. Your first step is to visit Nathan Davis Orthodontics to determine if Invisalign is right for you. After sending precise treatment instructions, Invisalign uses advanced computer technology to translate these instructions in a sequence of finely calibrated aligners. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and only taken out to eat, brush and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next, your teeth will begin to move gradually—week-by-week until the final alignment prescribed is attained. Then you’ll be smiling like you never have before! To ensure the best possible results, only an orthodontist such as Dr. Davis, who has been trained and certified by Align Technology, can diagnose and treat using Invisalign. Invisalign is not intended for children and may or may not be the right method for teens who need braces. Invisalign might not work for every adult’s needs. Dr. Davis can work with you to determine if this treatment is an effective option for you. To see if Invisalign can help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted, contact us to make an appointment.

Fun Fact

The word “braces” wasn’t coined until early 1900s. At the time, the material of choice was 14k or 18k gold. Some orthodontists, however, even used wood and ivory.

SureSmile®

Are you looking to wear your braces for the least amount of time as possible? Then make sure you talk to the staff at Nathan Davis Orthodontics about SureSmile. Personalized technology lets Dr. Davis create individual, precise braces designed specifically for you by the latest in orthodontic computer technology and robotics. With SureSmile®, the creation, structuring, placement and analysis of your braces are worked out completely before the doctor situates any of your appliances. This is made possible by computer technology that allows a 3-D image of your mouth, teeth and jawbone to be captured digitally, allowing both you and Dr. Davis to see the initial structures and possible alterations that can be made. Give us a call or click here to set up your free consultation where we can discuss SureSmile and set up a time to get the 3-D image of your mouth. Because the details are worked out beforehand, patients have to deal with fewer alterations to the structure of their appliances. This, in turn, leads to a shorter treatment time because the alignment is placed correctly from the beginning and then adjusted, not by hand, but by robotic “hands” that restructure your archwires with a greater degree of accuracy than previously possible. In addition, because the archwires are more precisely fitted to your teeth, your braces are more comfortable. A shorter treatment time means fewer office visits, which gives you more freedom! Let’s set up a consultation soon so we can show you more of how SureSmile works!

Fun Fact

Braces aren’t just for kids and teens. The American Association of Orthodontists estimates more than one million adults in North America are receiving orthodontic treatment.

Damon Braces & Damon Clear Braces

Damon Braces & Damon Clear Braces are one brand of braces (brackets & wires) that Nathan Davis Orthodontics offers to patients. Damon Braces have become well known and are sometimes asked for by name. Dr. Davis can explain to you the Damon Braces systems and how they compare to other brands for each patient’s individual needs.

About Damon Bracket

Damon Brackets are self Ligating brackets meaning they have a gate that opens and allows the archwire to be placed into it and then the gate closing around the archwire holding it in place. Damon brackets may also allow patients to have better oral hygiene through out orthodontic treatment.

About Damon Clear Bracket

Virtually invisible, Damon Clear has some advantages over traditional braces and aligners. Damon Clear is part of the innovative Damon System, which combines tieless braces with high technology archwires that can move teeth quickly and comfortably with great results. Available from skilled orthodontists such as Dr. Nathan Davis, Damon Clear combines the best of traditional clear braces and invisible aligners to deliver a discrete treatment experience with results that go beyond straight teeth.

Braces for Children & Teens

When is the best time to begin orthodontics?

Though an orthodontist can enhance a smile at any age, there actually is an optimal time period to begin treatment. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. At this early age, orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but vigilant examination can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin treatment. Beginning treatment at this time ensures the greatest result and the least amount of time and expense. If you have a child at or around the age of 7 that you think might need braces, call us and schedule a consultation with Dr. Davis. Even if your child doesn’t need braces right now, you’ll have the peace of mind knowing that you’re on top of it!

What are the benefits of early orthodontic evaluation?

Early evaluation provides both timely detection of problems and greater opportunity for more effective treatment. Prudent intervention guides growth and development, preventing serious problems later. When orthodontic intervention is not necessary, an orthodontist can carefully monitor growth and development and begin treatment when it is ideal.

Why is age 7 considered the optimal time for screening?

By the age of 7, the first adult molars erupt, establishing the back bite. During this time, an orthodontist can evaluate front-to-back and side-to-side tooth relationships. For example, the presence of erupting incisors can indicate possible overbite, open bite, crowding or gummy smiles. Timely screening increases the chances for an incredible smile.

What are the advantages of interceptive treatment?

Some of the most direct results of interceptive treatment are: Creating room for crowded, erupting teeth Creating facial symmetry through influencing jaw growth Reducing the risk of trauma to protruding front teeth Preserving space for unerupted teeth Reducing the need for tooth removal Reducing treatment time with braces During your consultation with Dr. Davis, he’ll be able to point out specific areas in your child’s mouth that could benefit from treatment. Call us to set up an appointment at a time that is convenient for you.

Phase I & II

Two-phase orthodontic treatment consists of two separate times when a child receives orthodontic treatment. A first phase of treatment is done while the child still has many or most of their primary or “baby” teeth. A second phase takes place when the child has most or all of their permanent teeth. Braces may or may not be used during a first phase of treatment. Other appliances (the name used for braces and other devices for orthodontic correction) may be used. Dr. Davis might recommend a two-phase treatment for children based on examination and study of diagnostic records. A first phase of treatment might be initiated to prevent a problem from developing, intercept a developing problem and/or guide the growth of jaw bones that support the teeth (growth modification). If Dr. Davis recommends a first phase of treatment, he has determined that a patient’s problem if not treated, will create an unhealthy environment for growth and development of teeth, gums, jaw and face. This treatment will be timed to predictable stages of dental development to provide the greatest potential for improvement and correction of malocclusion (bad bite). A first phase of treatment can provide patients with physical benefits of a better bite and possibly the aesthetic benefit of a better smile. A second phase of treatment moves permanent teeth into their final position.

Are you a candidate for orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontics is not merely for improving the aesthetics of the smile; orthodontic treatment improves bad bites (malocclusions). Malocclusions occur as a result of tooth or jaw misalignment. Malocclusions affect the way you smile, chew, clean your teeth or feel about your smile.

Why should malocclusions be treated?

According to studies by the American Association of Orthodontists, untreated malocclusions can result in a variety of problems: Crowded teeth are more difficult to properly brush and floss, which may contribute to tooth decay and/or gum disease. Protruding teeth are more susceptible to accidental chipping. Crossbites can result in unfavorable growth and uneven tooth wear. Openbites can result in tongue-thrusting habits and speech impediments. Ultimately, orthodontics does more than make a pretty smile – it creates a healthier you. Braces For Adults

Guess what adults? Braces aren’t just for kids anymore! Tooth alignment can be changed at any age if your gums and bone structure are healthy. We offer a variety of treatments that are designed for different age groups—including adults. A new smile can begin today. The good news is, the techniques and appliances we use greatly reduce discomfort levels, decrease the frequency of visits, shorten treatment time and may allow you to choose from several options. Your options may include metal braces, clear braces or lingual braces (braces behind the teeth). During the initial examination, we will be able to determine the best possible treatment for your individual needs. We can outline the treatment plan, time of treatment expected and the approximate cost. Our adult patients agree that it’s never too late to improve your greatest asset – your smile. Technologies

Itero Scanner

The Itero scanner is the latest and greatest invention in making your Orthodontic treatment more comfortable. Patients don’t have to endure the goopy, gooey and gaggy impression material anymore. The Itero scanner allows us to eliminate impressions in our office by taking a 3D scan of your teeth using the scanner. The scan takes about eight minutes and produces a 3D image of your mouth and we send that to our lab to make any appliance you may need as well as records of your before and after treatment.

Digital X-Rays

We use digital x-rays in our office to take a panoramic and cephalometric of your teeth. These digital x-rays produce x-ray images with out putting off as much radiation as traditional x-rays produce.

Soft Tissue Laser

The use of a soft tissue laser allows our doctors to take care of any small tissue issues in our office with out having any bleeding or stiches and prevents patients from having to go to a oral surgeon or periodontist like they had to in the past.
